Why “roots and wings”?
When I thought about naming this space, I wanted something that reflected the heart of who I am, both personally and professionally. “Roots and Wings” captures the essence of my journey as a therapist, a mother, a wife, and a woman who has learned to navigate life’s complexities with grace and purpose.
The roots represent grounding, resilience, and connection. They remind me of where I come from, growing up in the Bay Area, surrounded by a vibrant culture and history, and later, the lessons learned as I built a life in the Central Valley. They also speak to the deep work I do as a therapist, helping others find stability, meaning, and connection within themselves.
The wings symbolize growth, freedom, and possibility. They reflect my belief that while we honor where we’ve come from, we’re also meant to evolve, individually and collectively. As a mother to two neurodivergent children, I’ve seen how important it is to nurture their unique journeys, giving them the tools to spread their own wings while feeling the security of home.
This Substack is where I’ll explore the balance between these two forces. I’ll share reflections on mental health, parenting, relationships, and the intersections of identity that make us who we are. My hope is that “Roots and Wings” will be a space for grounding and inspiration, a place where we honor our past while daring to imagine our future.
Thank you for being here. Let’s grow and soar together.
Silvia
